
My capstone collection emerged from memories of warm summer nights spent making tortillas on a wood burning stove. For myself, and other Mexican-Americans, it is created as a reminder that home is always nearby, despite being many miles away. For others, it is a taste of authenticity and a look into my childhood. Pictured below, Licenciada tells the story of my heritage, woven in textiles sourced in Chihuahua, Chihuahua.
Once a sacred plant, cacti can grow despite the harshest weather conditions. In the heart of the Sierra Madre, found in Chihuahua, Mexico, nopales grow triumphantly out of the hard soil.
Similarly, daughters of immigrants continue their familial legacy in search for a better life for themselves and those who come after them. Despite all odds, they grow.
